A Vocabulary Lesson for Artists

When I first began my art journey in my mid-fifties, I really had no idea what challenges awaited me. Art is so much bigger, wider and deeper than just the paint brushes, the papers, the tools and the mediums. To pursue a creative life involves every aspect of the artist’s character and being.

Mixed Media Collage, acrylics

I am currently working on a new small series, “ Winter’s Quiescence”The problem is that I cannot seem to be able to remember how to say it or spell it. This is not new to me, complicated words have always been a challenge. However, I have a hard fast rule for myself: “If you cannot spell it and cannot say it, you cannot use it in a title” . I have to be very tough with myself. So, I have taken the word Quiescence and added it to my vocabulary list mounted on the fridge. This list contains the names of paint colors and techniques which I use on a daily basis but cannot seem to be able to pronounce or spell.
